Genetic editing should be permitted in organic crop cultivation to increase yields and make agriculture more sustainable. This is the position of an international research team led by the researchers of the University of Bayreuth. To this end, it proposes the introduction of new organic labels that characterise the use of new genomic techniques such as the CRISPR-Cas9 "gene scissors" in organic farming.

For the fourth time, the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Bayreuth is inviting participants to the Kulmbach Beer Law Day. This industry congress brings together experts from academia, law, politics and the brewing sector to discuss current issues in beer and food law – with a special focus this year on new marketing approaches and technological innovations such as precision fermentation.

The Cineplex Kulmbach will screen I AM FINE BUT, a documentary about a student of the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Bayreuth’s Kulmbach Campus, on 21 June at 10 am. Admission is free. The award-winning film centres on the experiences of Ezenge Robincrusoe Angeli during his “weltwärts” voluntary service in Germany prior to his university studies.
